BENIN CITY — The Vice-Chancellor, University of Benin (UNIBEN), Professor Lilian Salami, has mourned the death of her predecessor, Professor Grace Alele-Williams, who passed away on Friday 25th March, 2022, at age 89.
Professor Salami’s condolence was contained in a statement on Saturday issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, and made available to CAMPUS GIST, in Benin City.
She described the late former and first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin as an iconic giant who broke the glass ceiling for other women to blossom.
Salami said having spoken with her daughter, Orode Doherty, to commisserate with the family, she was consoled that the late Professor of Mathematics is being celebrated rather than mourned.
The UNIBEN Vice Chancellor prayed that God will rest the soul of the former Vice Chancellor peacefully and comfort her loved ones.
“A condolence register in honour of Professor Alele-Williams will be opened at the Vice Chancellor’s Office, University of Benin, while the institution’s flag will fly at half mast,” the statement added.
