Lagos, April 1, 2022 ( NAN) The MTN Foundation has awarded over N3 billion in scholarships to no fewer than 4,212 students in the country over the past 12 years.

He said the recipients included 300 Science and Technology students in tertiary institutions, 60 blind students in any discipline and 10 best performing students in UTME examinations.

The director congratulated the beneficiaries and the new MNT Alumni and encouraged them to create future for their dreams by being resolute and committed to their visions

“Today is celebration of excellence exemplified by these exceptional young men and women. You must never grow weary of chasing excellence,” he said.

Okoro however said the platform had been encouraging excellence and ensuring some of the nation’s most brilliant minds maximise their potential.

The Commissioner for Education, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, said the present administration’s investment in the education sector had yielded positive results.

Adefisayo who was represented by Director, Science and Technology Lagos State Ministry of Education, Grace Akinfoyewa, appreciated the foundation for what she described as its impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) projects, especially in the state.

“Indeed this laudable initiative of awarding scholarships to young Nigerians is highly commendable for the drivable opportunities and in aid of pursuits of academic excellence for science and physically challenged students.

“In our quest to promote STEAM Education, the government has made provision of ICT facilities and e- learning applications in most of our schools, continuously capacity building and training for our teachers and schools administrators for effective service delivery, “ she said.

NAN reports that the scholars have received the first instalment payment of the scholarship.
