The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reverted to its former calendar for the 2022 examination year, which was earlier affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The examination body, on Monday, announced that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, will now take place between May 16 and June 23 in Nigeria.
Head of the WAEC Nigeria Office, Patrick Areghan, who made the disclosure at a press briefing, added that the examination would take a period of six weeks.
CAMPUS GIST recalls that in the heat of the coronavirus pandemic, WAEC shifted the date for WASSCE to August – September, two months from the normal date.
Speaking at the press briefing in Lagos, Areghan expressed joy over the reverted calendar, noting that it was a move that showed recovery from the effects of COVID-19.
His words: “I am delighted to inform you that the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, will take place between the 16th of May and 23rd of June, 2022 in Nigeria, spanning a period of six (6) weeks.
“The significance of this is that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the various member States, save Ghana, have now again found a common ground in respect of their academic calendars.
“This shows a massive recovery from the devastating effects, disruptions and confusion caused by the pandemic.”
