The Federal Government has placed a ban on vehicle plate numbers of some organisations such as the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

This was as the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) warned Nigerians over the increase in the use of fake and unauthorized number plates by some individuals in the country.

FRSC said such affected number plates are used for criminal activities, including by internet fraudsters, and advised Nigerians to report anyone using such number plates to law enforcement agents.

In a statement issued by Assistant Corps Marshal, Bisi Kazeem, on behalf of the FRSC, the safety corps said that it didn’t produce such number plates neither were they issued by the Motor Licensing Authorities of the states.

Other plate numbers listed by the FRSC and categorised as unauthorized include CYMS, UN-AMB, PEACE, LEADS, PJHR 168, AMBASSADOR, UN-V1571, NAUS and UN-UNITY 01.

The statement partly reads, “Government and corporate bodies should be wary in dealing with such individuals or allowing such vehicles into their premises or extend any privilege to users of such vehicles as the users are persons of doubtful characters who disguise as government officials or responsible persons.

“Members of the public are by this publication warned to immediately discontinue the use of these fake and unauthorized number plates as defaulters will be prosecuted,” the FRSC added.
