A non-profit making organisation, Rivière dé Joie Foundation, yesterday, distributed food packs to children and vulnerable citizens in celebration of the Founder’s birthday anniversary.
CAMPUS GIST reports that the outreach held simultaneously in different locations including in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja and Benin City, the Edo State capital.
The Diaspora-based Foundation, Rivière dé Joie, translated into “Rivers of Joy”, was founded by Hon. Obiri J. Chukwuma, Diaspora Rep., Niger Delta Youth Parliament (NDYP).
In Abuja, the Foundation distributed hundreds of packs of rice and drinks to children at the Durumi IDP Camp in Area 1, while in Benin, several packs and drinks were handed down to children, the crippled and women on the streets. No fewer than 1,000 persons benefited from the kind gesture.
Speaking with CAMPUS GIST, during the exercise, a representative of the Rivière dé Joie Foundation, said the rationale behind the gesture is to ensure nobody stays hungry, especially the indigent.
He said one of the aims of the Foundation, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities, is to bring smiles to faces of the needy; a task, the Foundation has lived up to in the past.
The Rep. further explained that the food distribution programme was targeted at the vulnerable in the society to cushion the hardships in the land.
“So, we decided to come out and share some food items to people without food in honouring our Founder on his birthday. Our founder believes that no one should go to bed hungry.
“We all know that food is a basic necessity of life but sad enough to see that most people in our immediate community can’t even afford food for themselves and loved ones,” he said.
According to him, the Foundation works mostly with poor children and offers programmes that expand education, improve health, create businesses, and protect the lives of poor people.
He said the Foundation helps children to lead more productive and healthier lives, while they also assist them with education, safety, early preparation against pandemics.
“Every year, we try to put smiles on less privileged people, the needy, most especially those living in IDPs. Our Moto is ‘Lets Smile Together.’ Celebration is only good when everybody is happy. The essence is to share with those who are in need.”
He added that the objective of the gesture was to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged most especially in “this trying moment occasioned by hard economic realities.”
Some of the scores of beneficiaries who spoke with this Online Medium commended the Foundation for the kind gesture, describing the Founder as “God sent”.
They called on other organisations to emulate the Rivière dé Joie in their bid to ameliorate the suffering of the people, considering the current economic situation in the country.
