A former Spokesman of the University of Benin’s Students’ Union, Mr. Ehiabhi Goodnews, has been appointed into the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the forthcoming Nigerian Youth in Governance Summit.

CAMPUS GIST reports that Goodnews, who served as the UNIBEN Students’ Union Public Relations Officer between 2017 – 2018, made it to the LOC as “Lead Consultant” for the summit.

The youth summit slated for November 2022, in Abuja, is being organised by the Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) secretariat under the Clerk to the National Assembly.

According to the organisers, the essence of the summit is to prepare the youth for future leadership roles, while appealing to leaders of political parties in power at the federal and state levels to make governance youth friendly.

“The planned summit will be one without political or partisan colouration. It will be one that will further unite Nigerian Youth for paradigm shift in leadership and national development”, the NYP Clerk said.

The Nigerian Youth Parliament (NYP) is under the tutelage of the National Assembly, Abuja and funded by the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development.

NYP prides itself as a “non-partisan umbrella body for the Nigerian Youths” created in compliance with the United Nations Charter on Youths Development and in pursuant to the resolutions of the Commonwealth Head of Governments meeting in the Republic of Malta, 2005 as a platform through which their voices could be heard on government policies that affect them directly.

The youth parliament is a legislative and developmental training institution created to help strengthen, reinforce, and consolidate efforts in empowering young people through meaningful youth representation in driving Nigeria’s developmental agenda.

Meanwhile, the LOC was on Friday jointly inaugurated at the National Assembly, Abuja, by Clerk to the National Assembly, Mr. Ojo Amos Olatunde and Clerk to the Youth Parliament, Mr. Hassan Ibrahim Mohammed.

Commenting, Mr. Ehiabhi Goodnews, who said the development marked “a new phase in the governance of our Nation”, said the LOC will work side-by-side with the Nigerian Youth Parliament secretariat.

“We do solemnly promise that we will move everything in our arsenal to organize a summit that will further bring our people together and not divide us. A summit that will capture all interest in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the diaspora,” he said.

“We will organize a Summit that will be void of political coloration and focus on engaging our people on governance conversation,” Mr. Goodnews added.
