The UNIBEN Transformation Fitness Gymnasium has announced the immediate suspension of gym activities at its centre located within the University’s Ugbowo Campus.
A statement issued on Wednesday by Mr. Mark Ilega, on behalf of the Management Committee, said the development was ‘a mark of respect’ for the late student of the institution, Mr. Andrew Perez.
CAMPUS GIST had on Tuesday reported how Mr. Perez, a fresh Education graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), died at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Benin City.
The development had sparked protest from the deceased’s colleagues who attributed his untimely death to alleged negligence on the part of the UBTH doctors.
Meanwhile, in the statement on Wednesday, the UNIBEN Transformation Fitness Gymnasium said further directives would be passed through the gym’s trainers and instructors.
It reads, “As you are aware, the University is mourning the death of a vibrant student who was a growing sports enigma.
“Late Andrew Perez was a friend of our gymnasium and a firm believer in the noble ideals with which we run.
“With the approval of the Management Committee as a mark of Respect, we are ordering the Suspension of the activities at the Uniben Transformation Fitness Gymnasium with immediate effect.
“Further directives will be passed through your trainers and instructors.
“Thank you for your understanding and corporation.”
