Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the National University Commission (NUC) has been told to give university students and their counterparts in other tertiary institutions ’compulsory break’ in order to travel and exercise their franchise.

The Federal House of Representatives made the call on Thursday, while equally urging the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the Federal Ministry of Education to heed to the call.

The Green Chamber also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make special arrangements for the students to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the polls.

CAMPUS GIST gathered that the resolutions followed the consideration of a motion at the plenary by Hon. Kabir Ibrahim, All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker from Kebbi state.

Ibrahim argued that there were over 2.1 million students currently studying in Nigerian universities, while over 2.4 million were students in Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Education across the country.
